The Client
We were approached to renovate this Victorian terrace property for our illustrator and graphic designer duo (and their cats’) first home together.
The Original
A Victorian terrace nestled between the hustle and bustle of Wood Street and leafier Highams Park.
The Brief
The couple wanted a modern, open and light living space to complement the cosier period features of the property with a strong indoor/outdoor connection with plenty of space to entertain. As with many Victorian terraces storage was limited, so nifty, clever space saving ideas were requested.
The Design
Our proposed side-return and rear extension maximises light and space, accommodating a contemporary kitchen, diner and open plan space with plenty of flexible, hidden storage and banquette seating. Underfloor heating ensures the modern space has warmth, while the reinstation of period features such as fireplaces and the front porch restore the property to its former glory.
In the client’s words…
“Greg's passion for capturing different 'moments' within the design really resonated with our vision. It was a tired house that had been rented and uncared for many years, so it really needed some love to bring the space back to life and make it suitable for modern living. Both being designers, we had strong opinions on what we wanted, but lacked the building knowledge to bring it to life. Greg will give you so much more than a standard architect or design and build company. He is collaborative, passionate, and excited to do things a bit differently to other people. He's definitely a good choice if you are looking for more than just a box on the back of your house!”
