The Client

Just Another Architect were approached refurbish this grand Victorian terrace for a couple who loved sports and entertaining in equal measures.

The Original

The house sits on a sleepy street in Leytonstone area, close to Wanstead Flats. Originally constructed in the late 1800’s as part of a row of lavish terrace Victorian style houses owned by well-off businessmen living in big country houses in this old hamlet.

The Brief

The brief called for a side return, fitted with an open plan kitchen-diner with plenty of space to entertain guest, office and reading room for the family to grow into. In addition to the modern space, the couple were keen to refurbish and reinstate original features throughout the property.

The Design

Our proposed side-return and back extension creates an expansive, bright open-plan living space, kitchen and diner to the back of the property, inviting a strong and intentional indoor/outdoor connection and plenty of space for entertaining and BBQ’s. Period features throughout the property will be restored, and the receptions rooms to the front reconfigured to ensure flow between the old and new.

We knew from the start that we didn’t want a standard big box-style extension. Just as we were keen to get different ideas and thoughts, Greg really listened to ours.
